Bethany Lake Gas Station: Hearing moved to November, More Comments!
Hello Everyone-
The latest update from the County is the applicant is likely to delay their Oct 20th hearing until Nov 17th. So, we have even more time to get public comments in. Read on for some more ideas for your public comment.
Oh, and at the end I link to a recently produced parody Chevron ad (warning: contains swearing).
Public hearing rescheduled
The applicant, Robert Bob Barman, will ask for a continuance on the application until Nov. 17th. Drawing out the Hearings Officer process was a tactic they used on the last two applications as well so while annoying, this move isn’t surprising.
The upside is the public comment period will as a result remain open until Nov. 17th. Get your typing fingers warmed up!
Also, please consider emailing a copy of your comment to me after submitting it on the County website: brandon@nabgas.com. In the past the Staff has only included a summary of public comments instead of the entire comment. I would like to save all of your comments for our continued campaign.
Do I need to Submit a Comment?
Yes! Please submit a comment. Comments submitted for previous applications will not be considered. As far as the Staff and Hearings Officer is concerned this application is a clean slate and comments and reports about the previous applications for a Chevron on West Union are not considered.
Ideas for Your Public Comment
This campaign has developed a number of useful facts that you can reference in your public comments. And the Washington County land use laws, particularly section 403-3.1C, gives us an opportunity to raise concerns on developments that do not serve the public interest. Here are some potential ideas on why this Chevron near Bethany lake doesn’t serve the public interest:
- the limited need for a gas station when so many of the vehicles in 97229 are either fully electric or plug in hybrids (Read our economic argument)
- the impact of a busy gas station and a drive through on the student walking route (Read our pedestrian safety argument)
- the impact of gas storage tanks leaks or a gas spill directly adjacent to a significant wetland (Read our environmental argument)
- the conflict between the Department of Fish and Wildlife trout stocking program and the gas station use (Read our recreational fishing argument)
Try referencing this data in your comment. This development does not serve the public interest.
Tell your neighbors!
With this continuance we have even more time to organize. Please share nabgas.com with neighbors and ask them to subscribe to these emails with the link below.
And as promised the parody Chevron Ad (contains swearing).
Thank You,
Brandon
