Hello Everyone-
I hope y’all are ready for 2022! We have a lot of work to do to stop the Gas Station near Bethany Lake and pass laws in Washington County to ensure these sorts of developments can’t happen in the future.
There is a Washington County Commissioners primary election coming up in May for 3 out of 5 Commissioner seats. We want to see gas station land use discussed amongst the candidates. Please consider emailing the candidates about where they stand on protecting public resources from gas stations.

The applicant for the Gas Station near Bethany Lake, Bob Barman, sent a letter to inform the County he will ask for another continuance at the hearing scheduled for January 20th, 2022 (letter).
Despite this request, the January 20th hearing will go on as scheduled. Members of the public can still join, ask questions about the application, and the applicant’s representatives will still attend.
Join the meeting via Zoom on Jan 20th at 9am
Last month in Pasadena, California a driver hit a gas pump and caused 1,300 gallons of fuel to leak. Gravity did its work and the fuel was pulled into the Alhambra wash where hazmat crews did their best to cleanup the spill. This is an excellent example of how misleading it can be to say “gas stations with new underground tanks rarely leak”. Leaks can happen from many different sources as the Oregon DEQ data shows.
Hazmat crews with the city of Pasadena and Los Angeles County responded, as a portion of the intersection was closed. The spill was partly contained Sunday night. Cleanup efforts were expected to continue well into Monday afternoon, the city of Alhambra said.
During the cleanup process, residents in the surrounding area were advised to stay indoors and close windows. Anyone who reports feeling sick from the fumes should call 911.
