Hello Everyone-
As expected, during the January 20th Hearing the applicant, Bob Barman, asked for a continuance on his application for a Chevron Gas Station near Bethany Lake. I will send out a reminder email If the application is updated and as the new June 16th hearing date approaches.
But! There is no reason to take a 5 month rest on our campaign. In fact, we need your help today!
We want to see Washington County pass laws (land use codes) that will ensure an application like this can never be considered again. And the next step on this mission is sending a request to Washington County Land Use Staff to start a program to update the code. And we have drafted a letter to do just that. Here is the specific request from the letter:
Our request: We want Washington County land use codes updated to require that gas stations, currently operating gas stations excluded, be a minimum of 1,500 feet from any public park or playground, school, hospital, church, theater, dwelling unit, public library or building for public assembly; or any wetland, stream, river, flood plain, or environmentally sensitive area. We also want to see this applied to all zones across the County without an option for variance to ensure equitable and objective application of this requirement.
Do you agree? Should Washington County update its land use code to restrict gas stations from being developed near sensitive areas? If so, please reply to this email with your name and street address. I will add it to the signatures on the letter and CC you when I send the letter.
Our goal is to have 100 signatures on the letter (thats about 60% of the subscribers on this newsletter).
I really appreciate everyone’s effort. Lets make this positive change for our community in 2022!
Also, please forward this email to neighbors and friends asking them to read and sign the letter as well.
Thank You,
Brandon Philips
